Did you know there are proper ways, and not so proper ways, to burn a candle? Yep, sure are! Burning a candle properly is not only for your safety, but it also makes the candle last longer, which saves you money! We all want to save money, right??
Follow these steps to ensure you get the most out of your hand poured, soy candles:
1. ALWAYS trim your wick to approximately 1/4" before lighting your candle. Every. Time. This ensures that the flame is not too large. A large flame will burn your candle too fast, can over heat your vessel, and can cause soot. We don't like soot!
2. Never burn your candle for more than about 4 hours at a time. However, you do need to burn the candle long enough for the melt pool to reach all the way across the vessel. Soy wax has a memory. If you don't allow it to melt all the way across, tunneling will occur and you will waste lots of precious scented wax!
3. Stop lighting the candle when approx 1/4" of wax is left in the bottom. This will prevent your vessel from overheating and possibly breaking.
4. Keeping candles away from heavy drafts and on a flat surface will ensure even burning. This will also prolong your candle life.
5. And of course we know you know, but we have to let you know, just in case....never leave a burning candle unattended. Always keep out of reach of children and pets.
That's it. A few simple steps will help your candle last longer, prevent soot in your home and keep everyone safe!
